inner stay's on 30's

I have just purchased a 1978 Oday 30, as part of the resoration work I am replacing the chainplate anchor ply ( rotted completly). In looking at photographs of 1979 and later production 30's they seem to have two inner stay's per side, one forward of the main attachments.Does any one know why Oday changed this? Also were does it attach to and is it worth adding these second stay's as part of the restoration.Any help would be most welcome.

I'm assuming that you are referring to the main chain plate. this was glassed to the hull and not very well supported I might add. when the rig is tightened it deflects the hull slightly. there was an article written by some one in wis. i believe that had same prob. he has pics on the site. My 79 has'nt had any rot prob. however I've been very,very careful to make sure no leakage occures at chain plate. If leaks occure water gets into the deck and also rots the balsa core in the deck.Now as to the double lowers. If you will note the aft lowers are on the same plate as the cap shrouds and are aft of the mast. this keeps the mast from pumping forward. the fwd lowers keep it from pumping aft. needless to say if the mast pumps it can cause a rig failure. some designs that don't have lower fwds use a baby stay that is attached in heavy air to keep it from pumping. ie the Express 30. I believe this is more a problem on mast head rigs than fractionals, as you usually have an adj backstay to take draft depth out of main and it drastically reduces pumping.the fwd lowers are attached to a plate that is bolted to the bulkhead between the head and the main saloon.If you don't have both lowers the mast will pump like crazy in heavier air and possibly cause the rig to fail.Capn Jim of Que Pasa?
