My M25 has 900 hours and runs very well. I have read that some people change or service there fuel injectors at 1000 hours. The cost of taking them to a diesel injector place is about 80 to 90% of buying new nozzles. What are the pros/cons of each or should I just leave it alone and not look for problems? I see no smoke, but the transom on my 1983 Catalina 30 (with the stainless flapper on the exhaust) does get black after use.

Stay the Course

If its not broke don't fix it. Just keep with clean fuel. Injectors are a deisel engine.

I've seen 5K hours too!

Phil is right. John, it is in many manuals to change the primary every 100 hours too, seldom is this done. Is it a good Idea? Sure, who could argue with that. It 'depends' humidity, clean fuel, water in tank, keep biocide in the tank, keep fuel tank full...et al. If no smoke, Iwould'nt worry 'bout it, but I am not a motor head, so don't listen to me for God's sake! Mebee we can get an opinion from some of the engineers around here, Bill Roosa, Stu...etc.

If you do go for service...

John, I see your in Huntington. I had my injectors and injector pump rebuild last season by Diesel Injector Service in Huntington Station on E.Jericho Tpke. I can't say enough about this guys service, quick turnaround and good rates. As for injector and injector pump failure, I've had it happen a couple of times over the years and there was never any warning. One day the motor started, the next it didn't. It was as simple as that (for me).

Thanks to all. I think I will hold off for now. However, as I will be changing the crankcase oil soon I will spray some injector cleaner in the intake run the engine for a bit and then change the oil. John
