Help, we just bought the above boat as a fixer-upper. It is not in the best shape but it appears very sound, and we are wondering if anyone out there has owned one before and any information about these boats, i.e. systems, proper rigging, sailing abilities, etc. Thanks for your help.

Try this link, I didn't read much into it so I don't know if it will be helpful or not: http://www.geocities.com/buccaneersailboats/

My wife had one in a previous life

Before I met my wife she had purchased a 19' Buccaneer in '78. She laughs now about that boat, stating since it was built by Bayliner (the power boat company) it didn't sail real well but was fun to party on. Her's was a shoal keel that couldn't point and was only good in light air. Apparently they changed their designs in '79 to improve sailing characterics. I see on Yachtworld.com there are Buccaneers from 22-32 feet listed, most of them from '79 to newer. Lucky for me she got rid of that boat long before we ever met but she kept the sailing bug and got me hooked. I mean no insult by the above, just passing on what I've heard, if yours is a fin keel it will probably sail better. Enjoy and fair winds, Jim
