Information on chartplotters question

In responce to a question concerning the Connecticut River I posted a link to down loadable chart booklets. I also down loaded one of those and was reading the many notes and the excerpts from the coast pilot. Now my question;
Do the chartplotters carry these excerpts from the coast pilot and is it posible to insert updates from "notice to mariners" on the charts?

Coast Pilot information

My chart plotter which is based on Navionics Gold (here is a link: http://www.navionics.com/GoldPlusCatalog.asp) does not contain Coast Pilot information. The only source I am aware of is NOAA charts which can be downloaded for free for P.C. based chartplotters like Sea Clear II and Maptech. If you would like to have the data on board you need paper charts or a P.C. system.

In doing a quick read of the Navionics site their Platinum charts contain Coast Pilot Books.

Chart Navigator does

Chart Navigator from Maptech (did they go out of business?) has coastal pilot, notices to mariners, photos of selected passages, light lists and was free.
All the data is available from the raster map (BS) view by mousing over the area and right clicking.

I have not tried to update the program in a while though.

Most of the "fixed" chartplotters, like those from Garmin, Raymarine, etc., can not take NOTM updates per se. The software on them does not support doing that in any reasonable fashion for the most part. This is one reason they are not considered legal replacements for paper charts.

Bill—

While Maptech has gone out of business, their chart and software live on, as the various parts of the companies were bought up. Richardson's charts bought the chart section, and IIRC, the makers of Rosepoint navigation software bought the electronic navigation software.
