information needed

Recently purchased Beneteau 323. Need information on two topics that I could not find in the owner's manual.
1. starting procedure for engine. No glow plug? need to wait ??? after key turned on to push starter button?
2. transmission position when sailing (my Catalina 30' shoud be sailed with transmission in reverse). No info on topic in owners manual for Beneteau 323. Any info. on this?

Check the engine manual for starting procedure. Some engines don't require GP preheat.

On the prop - similar answer if you have a feathering or folding prop - check prop manufacture . My maxprop must be in neutral or forward. I'll have to pass on the fixed blade answer - although there are devices to lock the prop shaft to keep it from spinning. My Volvo engine manual does address the fixed blade recommendation - but not sure if that's specific to the D-55 on my boat.

Which engine? My B323 2006 has a 3ym20.

Yanmar says for fixed prop transmission should be left in neutral. Which allows prop to spin. As for starting, my 3GM30 does not have glow plugs. I just push the fuel lever a little bit, turn the key, hit the start button and whammo she starts right away. This time of the year with colder weather, if she hesitates after starting, I just goose it up, and bring it back as soon as it's revving normally. Good luck

My 323 has a 2GM20F. Yanmar recommends engine in neutral while sailing. Why? I don't know. Tons of arguments on the subject on this site. Because I couldn't stand the rolling sound of the prop in neutral, I switched to a folding prop.

No glow plugs in the engine. The only reason to wait to hit the starter is to be sure that the blower has cleared any odd fumes out of the engine compartment. It's mandatory with a gas engine, just good safety practice with a diesel.
