Three boats from Kent Island are planning a two week cruise down the eastern shore of the Chesapeake to Cape Charles and then back up the western shore. We're good on most of the stops but I could use the help about the eastern shore after our stop in the Little Choptank. Preliminary idea is to go from Little Choptank River to anchor in either Fishing Creek or Nanticoke River. Then to Crisfield, MD. After that to anchor in the Onancock River, Va. and then on to Cape Charles, Va.

All three boats are wing keel with a little more than 5' draft. I would like input on good anchorages between the Choptank and Crisfield and then between Crisfield and Cape Charles. Are the choices above going to give us good anchorages with adequate depth? Are there other/better choices?

Thanks in advance for all your input.

Onancock is a favorite of ours when we want a quick overnight trip across the Bay. There's a pleasant, largely protected anchorage just inside the mouth of the creek on the north side. Check your chart and poke your way in and you should be fine with that draft. Per the CB cruising guide there's others as you go up the creek but I haven't used them. We usually motor up to the town and anchor in the basin off the town docks or get a slip if we want to run AC. The town itself is a nice place to spend some time. On your way back check out Reedville on Cockerels Creek. Makes a good jumping off point to Solomons or lower Potomac and a nice little town with plenty of anchorage options. Sounds like a great trip.
