My wife and I are considering purchasing a Catalina 310 for inland lake use close by our home. I would appreciate any owner comments/experience about this model. Specifically, I will be sailing single-handed quite a bit of the time. Any guidance or comments are appreciated.

Just Bought One!

I just purchased a 310 in December. I love this boat. It is easy to single hand and sails much better than my previous Hunter. If you are lake sailing upgrade to a 150 jib. It weights over 10,000 lbs. and the 150 really helps in light air. Very few things have gone wrong with my boat. If you have any question you can emal me at dharco6215@aol.com.

Check the April 1 issue of Practical Sailor for a comparison of the Catalina 310, Hunter 326, and Beneteau 311. I would pretty much agree with most of the items they noted except the boat is category A, ocean rated, not B. I have had hull #92 for a year now and am very pleased with it. If you are going to single hand you'll probably want to add an autopilot and route the traveler outboard of the dodger along the coaming back to the wheel as you play it quite a bit if it's gusty. Love my 310

This is our second year with hull number 118 "Winter Dream'n". We sail in Lake Erie in 5-20 kts of wind and typically less than 4 ft seas but always with unorganized 1-2 ft chop due to the shallow water and lots of power boats. We ordered the boat with a dodger and highly recommend this option. We bought a locally made bimini because we did not want the permanent frame in the cockpit. We use the bimini at the dock when the sun is really hot. We ordered the 150 head sail and a spinnaker and are glad we did. Had a second set of reef points put in for the main over the winter for use when the wind exceeds about 25 kts. The boat sails well in all conditions and the interior layout is perfect for our lifestyle which includes 2 adults 50 % of the time and another couple 50 % of the time. Things I would change are few but include the common need for a larger holding tank and more storage space. Bottom line - it is a great boat.

C-310

We love our 310! It really is a great boat and very spacious for it's size. If you are planning on single-handing this boat be sure to get the auto-pilot and the chart plotter. With those two items you should have no problem sailing alone.
