I found a site (http://chartmaker.ncd.noaa.gov) with chart info. Has anyone used it and how do you get charts for display on your computer?

The key prase on that web site is "for sale" The was a link to a list of print houses who you can actually get a print from. You will not be able to bring up on the computer any chart cause you could then print it and not pay anyone!!!

You can view and copy charts at http://mapfinder.nos.noaa.gov/ but they are low resolution and marked NOT FOR NAVIGATION If used on a laptop they must be calibrated with a moving map program like Fugawi.

My favorite site is

marineplanner.com You can view and manipulate all the NOAA charts and even set waypoints and plan trips for free you just can't download unless you pay.

these charts are the new international format. They are also the most current charts available. There are a couple of links on the NOAA site for free downlaodable viewers. SetSails Max Sea software is capable of using these charts directly from NOAA's site, as long as they remain free. I'm sure that will change once they start to get significant useage. I've used them to update my maptech and BBS electronic charts, but haven't figure out how to print them. Bryce S/V Spellbinder H410
