Okay folks here's the problem. I was looking at a Hunter 30 from the mid 80's. The current owner knows little about the boat!!! I looked at the mast and it doesn't seem to be correct for the boat. It's about 26 feet long and seems a bit smaller then it should be. Can you give me a rough idea about length, diameter and weight of the mast for a Hunter 30. If this mast doesn't match the boat I'm going to look elsewhere.

Thanks for the info.
Matt

Check the Boat Info tab and you should be able to find the specs there.

Some owners have been faced with low bridges and thought that cutting a couple or several feet off a mast was a good way to get around paying to put the boat in a harbor with proper clearances.

Thanks Steve. Good suggestion.

The 306 had a 42' 6" mast
The early 30 had a 45 foot mast
And the later 30 was a 50 footer.

So I think I'm going to avaoid this boat as I'd need a new mast to get her to move.

You do realize that those 3 boats are totally different designs, don't you.

The Cherubini was the 45 fiot mast. I would not even consider a boat that they cut that much off. But I would not purchase a boat with a modified rig unless you have $10k to purchase a new stick and they gave me the boat.

Proper mast?

My 1983 H-30 has a 42' deck mounted mast made by Kenyon. If yours is only 25" long it not the original.

I sounds like it was a cheap fix to a dismasting. Some sailors do exercise their choice to cut off a couple of feet from their mast so that they can clear a vertical obstruction at most tides and greatly enhance their sailing opportunities. To some it may mean the difference of being able to moor off of their backyards or paying for a marina an hour's drive away. If the sailor is not into racing there is much to be gained. When these boats are sold or traded they are mostly sold in the community where the buyer has similar needs.
