Hello Everyone, I am interested in purchasing inflatable vests with the built in harness. Does anyone have any recommendations as to brand, model, features, etc. Any recommendations for tethars or jacklines?? I have a Catalina 30 and do light coastal cruising. Thanks, Paul

Paul, take a look at SOSpenders with harness. See the link I left below. Just make sure they're Coast Guard Approved. There are other manufacturers of inflatables such as Mustang, Air Force, and Sterns. I think they're all pretty much the same once you get the CG approvals.

We've used SOSpenders

for about 4 years now, and have been very happy with them. We have three manuals and three automatics, but if I had to choose now I would get all automatics. Two of them have harnesses, and so are a bit bulkier tham the rest. We got a tether from SOSpenders also. We tested them all last year in the swimming pool (they worked great) and replaced the gas canisters and inflation discs and pins. You probably should replace the cartridges more often than we did. The only time an automatic went off unexpectedly was when my son jumped out of the dinghy into the surf at the beach - but it proved that it worked!

West Marine now sells

West has a variety. They are made by SOSpenders for WM. I bought 2 of the "38's". It sells for $179, but if you open a charge account, you'll save 10%.

SOSpenders

I have an nonapproved (older) set with builtin harness. I like it just fine & thankfully haven't had occasion to use it. I have the automatic & probably wouldn't change to manual unless I was doing a LOT of sailing in the rain or had a wet cockpit. LaDonna

I like them

I have a collection of inflatable jackets on my boat because anytime I reef everyone gets a jacket. The inflatables are great because people will actually wear them since they're fairly unobtrusive. I've never had a problem with mine other than dropping them overboard occasionaly. Justin - O'day Owners' Web

West Marine

I've had 2 West Marine vests for several years and love them. Mine aren't CC approved, but since my boat has the required # of CC approved vests aboard anyway, I haven't been concerned. I find that we wear these when we wouldn't be wearing a non-inflatable vest.
