I have an inflatable that is in good shape, except the floor needs to be re-glued. I've tried "inflatable glues" with little luck. My question is, does anyone know of a good inflatable repair shop in the Florida Panhandle area? Thanks, Bob

PVC or Hypalon?

Bob: What type of inflatable do you have? What material is it made from? If it is hypalon, you probably need to heat the seams and pull them apart. There are two types of glue (one part and two part). I just replaced the front handle on my Caribe. I used one part glue. Used a heat gun to remove the old handle and then sanded the area and cleaned it. Then you apply the glue to both sides. The you let it dry for about 25-30 mins. Make sure that the sides DO NOT touch. Apply another coat of glue and let it set for about 5 mins. Press the two pieces together and Viola. Just like new.

It's Hypalon. The glue I used was a two part. It stuck well, but I have water leaks that I can't find. Thought it might be best to let a pro remove and re-glue. Bob

Where do you think it is leaking?

Bob: can you tell if it is leaking around the stern or is it generally around the forward bottom area? The reason I'm asking is because it could be just around the drain. You can just pull the drain out and caulk with some life caulk (black). If it is really the bottom seams, you may want to try some liquid soap and water mixture. Spread on the seams and see if you get bubbles. This seems like a good thing to do on a nice sunny day with a six-pak of anything in the warm Fl. sun. If you can isolate the problem yourself you may save some money even if someone else does it for you. What brand of inflatable?

Steve......

I believe the make is a Seyvor(sp). The leak is comming from the stern, but I don't think it is the plug. I have already caulked it as well as most of the seams. I'm going to put it up on sawhorses and fill it with water. I figure if water will leak in, it will also leak out when filled with water. Bob

Mobile Ship Chandlery

I had a split seam in the back of my 12' Apex, a fellow boater suggested the Mobil Ship Chandlery in Mobile, AL. Don't have the # any more but you can call 411. They did a great job, also checked the valves and found a leak I didn't know about, cost $168. Only drawback was they were VERY busy with preseason stuff, took them 3 weeks to get to mine, but good quality work. Chris Rice S/V Sea Dawg Hunter 40

Bob, Check this out.

http://www.sevylor.com/html/sevymarines.html You should be able to find their Customer Service numbers on the website. I think that this is a PVC boat but they will be able to tell you.
