I wish to add some lead ballast to our Hunter 216. Shot would be my first preference, but I'm open to suggestions. Can anyone steer me to an economical source of lead in the central Florida (preferably the Cocoa/ Melbourne/Orlando/Daytona) area? Please E-mail me at: rcowgill@cfl.rr.com. Thanks! Bob Cowgill

Inexpensive lead

Find a plating co. Preferably Hard Chrome Plating and ask them for scrap or ask them where to get some.

Go to a Junk Yard (recycling center)

I went to one and they had tons of the lead weights used to balance tires. Cost about 25% of lead from a store. He sold the weights to me for what he'd get for scrap. I then melted the lead and the steel clips floated to the top. Picked them up with a magnet. Melting lead can be hazardous and should be done outside. Water can cause the lead to splatter and the fumes are toxic. Pour the melted lead into a mold. I actually got the lead to make some new weight belts for diving. My boat has about 4500#s of lead in it's keel. You might be able to find a junked boat with a lead keel that you could saw of a chunk.
