Holidays over,3 weeks till our big trip, should be enough time for me to reduce my motor to a basket case. I am going to do the Tohatsu " won't lock down tight" fix discussed this summer. The first thing I learned is that I am WAY overgreasing the swivel on the shaft. Second, Gun Scrubber is good at cleaning the grease, but I never spray it on the motor, just on the rag for wiping. Springsteen full blast in the room next door, good day so far!

Rather than go through all of this I just ordered the motor steering lock bracket from Def****r Marine, now I don't have to worry about my Tohatsu outboard vibrating out of position.

Right,Im aware of brackets, but wanted to be able to spin the motor for making bat turns. ( Had to explain to grandsons what a Bat turn is!)

I understand bat turns, I agree you give up some flexibility with the bracket. I'm fortunate in that I have lots of room at my current dock so I can do all my steering with my rudder.

My hat is off to anyone who ventures into the inner parts of a motor. (Outboard, Inboard or All Around the Town!)

DAVA390, what material will you be using to wrap the shaft under the clamp band? I've seen a couple happy owners who have done this job, but I was skeptical of the longevity of the fix due to the materials used.

Well, not sunbrella, but it is pretty heavy material left over from new cushions she made for our last boat. I'll have To ask her and get back to you. Ended up putting it on in two separate layers, fingers got too sticky handling cloth, couldn't control getting second strip on well.2 days after first strip,I put second one on.( Tonight).

I am humbly corrected. Seamstress/Admiral tells me it is sunbrella, I`m clueless in fabrics, and many other things.
