I recall reading about using an outboard engine inboard, just as it were a saildrive. Any positive or negative experiences? Where can I get sound ideas and/or installation plans?Tnaks a lot.
Your point on the gasoline inside the sailboat also scares me. On the other hand, I think I have a nice boat but the outboard just does not make the mark. A regular inboard would probably mean sacrificing the wheel and a new engine with saildrive is just too expensive. Thanks,
Columbia and Coronado manufactured a number of boats in the 70s with a covered well located just aft of the tiller post. Good news and bad news - no outboard hanging off the stern; easier to get to and work on; better balance///you can't tip the motor forward unless you cut a notch out of the transom; the lower unit stays in the water all the time unless you work out a way to raise and store the motor; fumes from the well can be REAL nasty in the cockpit in a following wind and can cause rough running when ingested by the motor. The Columbia 26 and 28 are examples of this setup.
