Hunter 19 Itchenor
I recently purchased a hunter 19 and have been doing some maintenance (its on hard-standing at the moment). It rained today so I got to see if there were any leaks and I found that the fittings down the sides leak slightly and cause dampness in the hull underneath and along the sides. The problem is that I physically cannot force myself into those areas of the boat so that I can unbolt them from below. I am not very fat and am quite short so its not me, but I was wondering if there are any well known solutions to the problem?

on several occaisions in the past years, i have had to turn to craigslist and advertise for some help from a small framed person to help with some boat work....

I have always been able to get someone to help out for a couple of hours, and on one occaision the guy continued to work for me for about three weeks... he was a good worker, but i think he made too much money and retired, LOL... some people seem to think that when they get a few hundred well earned dollars in their hand, they are set for life and never come back to work...... i think maybe some day I should try that!

I dont even the midget-iest of people would be able to do all of them, or be willing (I tried and scratched myself). Would it be possible to attempt to waterproof them from above?

the waterproofing of a fitting does not happen around the outside of it... it has to be around the holes where the hardware passes thru the hull.

another option is to get a cockpit gunwhale storage pocket... and cut an access hole in the side of the cockpit, access the hardware, and then install the pocket in the hole to seal it back up...

Unfortunately, I am not that familiar with the boat. IF a cabin boat, close it up tapeing the windows and hatches with tape. Then put some plastic over the companionway taping it too with a small slit so you can insert a leaf blower and tape around that too. Have a second person with a bucket of good soapy water, turn on the blower and brush all fittings and so forth and where you see air bubbling is a sign of the leaks.

That was one of their first boats.
