Strider at Dyers Dock, from which I left on my first offshore passage to a foreign country and where the only large sailing vessel of my design that was built is based. I love being docked next to a sign that says, "Research Vessels Only". After all, Strider was one once.

The research vessel Tioga, probably the jewel in the crown of my career, in her new, low maintenance paint scheme of bare aluminum wherever possible. I love the new look:





Also seen at the WHOI dock this morning, a research vessel named Pheonix, a bird which rises from the ashes. The home port is Bikini which we immolated in an atomic fireball. You can bet there is an interesting story behind this vessel:

Turns out the Pheonix is nothing as exotic as I thought. She's actually now from my home state of Maine!

I guess the home port of Bikini is just a flag of convenience registration.
