Depth Finder
Hi Dave, I have a O'Day 22 centerboard with an in-hull depth finder. The previous owner installed it and located the transducer under the stbd. berth in the main cabin, about 12 " from the centerline of the boat. The bottom of the 22 is fairly flat, and offers a good place to get a decent reading from. The transducer seems to be glued in place directly to the hull. There are no thru-hull penetrations. The wires to the depth finder in my boat are detachable from the unit so they were simply run out from the removable access panel through the finger slot and under the seat cushion to the depth finder (which has no permanent position). When I use the device, I simply bring it (and it's lengths of cable) out onto the cockpit seats. I rarely use it continuously. I usually monitor the depth finder when I have to calculate how much scope I need to leave when anchoring. If you sail often in shallow or shoaling water, it's a good idea to have one.
