Hello Members,

Would any of you be willing to share information from your sailing experience on the Bombay Clipper 31? I have looked at the reviews that I could find online and have read + and - information. As a predecessor of the Island Packet line of yachts I think the boat may have a pretty good pedigree. Here in SW Florida a shallow draft is a good thing in our opinion.

Respectfully, 31Seahorse

From what I have learn in the past from a few folks who have been owners in this area. While they are pretty solidly built. They do not sail very well unless it's very heavy air. Even then not that great of a sailor, plan to motor a lot.

I haven't sailed one but I've been in one. Nice size head for that size boat, it was aft, which was sort of ahead of its time. Also a lot of room and a pretty usable looking layout.
The cabin design... you either love it or hate it I guess. Pretty shallow draft for that size boat but you're going to pay for it if you are actually trying to point.

You will need a survey to get insurance. You should also ask for a sea trial. Before you buy. Then you will know how it sails.

This is gonna be a slow poor performer. If you need shallow draft you might consider a keel CB

She isn't as heavy as she looks at under 10,000 lbs. I am not a racer, but usually I check base PHRF ratings to get a general idea of how slow a boat is. I found a rating of 204 which is comparable to a rating of 192 for a non-tall rig Catalina. For light air I'd invest in an an asymetrical or even go for a drifter on a furler for ease of use if I had the dough. My friend bought one for his 39 and he absolutely loves it.

It's a pig

I tend to agree with the previous comments. We had one in our charter fleet about fifteen years ago. Now, we (maint, crew and staff) were into performance as well as comfort, but this was definately NOT a performer.
It also never chartered!
