In-mast furling mechanism is slipping on Hunter 33

Hunter 33 Toronto
I've recently purchased a 2008 Hunter 33 with in-mast furling. At the end of our first sail when we were attempting to re-furl (sorry if i don't get the sailing terms correct) the main I was getting considerable slip between the in-furling line and the "pulley" that it runs through near the base of the mast that drives the furling mechanism. We were working to maintain some tension on the outhaul through this process to ensure proper furling.

My two guesses as to the possible cause of this are that the furling line is worn so it's a bit too narrow to be gripped by the pulley, or the gripping ribs on the pulley are worn so they wouldn't grip a good line anyway.

Would appreciate anyone's thoughts if you've had similar past experience and found a way to solve the problem.
