I have a new to me 2007 Hunter 31 with in mast furler. I was out last weekend with gusts of 20+, the main would not stay partially furled, is this normal? Do I have to move the mast drum to the locked position in this much wind?

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new sailboat!!

To mitigate the risk of the mainsail unfurling out of the (furling Selden I assume) mast and not staying reefed you need to put the furling winch in the "ratchet position". I always do that immediately after unfurling the mainsail and before reefing it to mitigate that risk. Learned that the first time I reefed the maninsail in heavy wind. Please let the forum know if that works for you.

Yes, that's why it's provisioned.
