Hi everyone,

It just so happened that we on Wee Happy have met up with another Vega, Gemini Dreams, here in sunny Florida. So it looks like we have the makings of the first ever East Coast Vegatarians Rendezvous :)

We are planning to head out tomorrow towards Key west and then on to the Marquesas keys and the Dry Tortugas after that.

No internet access from out there. It is 60 miles from the last cell phone tower. So we won't get to post any pictures or stories here or on our blogs until we're back.

It's exciting to have a pair of vegas heading out to the tortugas together though :)

More later.

Wow! just F'n Wow! Sorry everyone else missed it! I have been hanging with the crew of the s/v Wee Happy for over a month now and the trip has been awesome! To night is the unplanned final dinner of the rendezvous and we will part ways this weekend. But WOW! what a good time. Check our blogs over the next few days as we get caught back up on internet. I'll let Capt "K" give you guys more details. Sometimes you just have to make it happen and stop talking about it.

Wes

We will stay in touch and if the opportunity arises next year we will let everyone know again!

The trip was amazing. If anyone plans to cruise the Keys, be sure to go all the way out to the Dry Tortugas and visit Loggerhead key.

We sailed for 36 hours from Bahia Honda state park to the Tortugas. We stopped in Key West to fill up on fuel and ice, but then we kept going through the night. What a beautiful starry and mooney night (full moon).

What a joy to have two sister ships sailing together through the night and the next day into waters as blue as in the caribbean.

We anchored outside Fort Jefferson next to Bush Key, which is covered by 50,000 birds in a migratory nesting zone. The fort is the biggest fort in U.S. territory, and it's on an island!!!

The lighthouse on Loggerhead was the highlight for us, but our stop at the Marquesas on the way back was just as enchanting.

What great little boats we had for this trip. The vegas felt and looked right at home cutting and bouncing through and over the waves in conditions in which our friends in Hunters and Catalinas declined to join us.

We're posting the details of the trip story and photographs and videos on our blogs in parts, since the voyage was many days long and packed with treats.

I've been writing up lots of details for people who might be interested in going to the tortugas sometimes...somethign of a blend of a logbook and a cruising guide...at least an attempt at it. it's half up already on weehappy.com

Now that we've been cruising with another vega for a while, it really stimulates interest in planning a regatta next fall or maybe winter on the southern east coast.
