When I replace the impellor on my boat should I lubricate the new impellor with something when I install it ? If so with what ? Thanks CM

SpeedSeal

While you're at it, you may want to switch to a SpeedSeal. Its a replacement impellor cover that can be removed without any tools. They also recommend and sell a lubricant for impellors that they call 'Slicone High Slip Coating'. http://www.speedseal.com/speedseal.html

Many options

People use anything from silicon grease to vaseline to liquid dish detergent. The object is to keep the impeller lubricated until it begins to pump water. Globe makes a line of new impellers that they say can run dry for up to fifteen minutes without damage. They are even cheaper than the original manufacturer's parts. You can get them at Defender.com. See the link for details.
