I am looking for some pros and cons on the Bayliner Bucineer(good thing I have a sec. at work that can spell) the boat is a 1976 32 foot appears to be in good condition but have not seen many arround and that make me wonder if they are worth a darn. Bayliner has been arround for a long time but I have not seen them in sailboats just power. any comments good or bad will be helpful thanks "mic"

who can't spell.

Bayliner was not very sucessful with their sailboat lines. They went through a couple of renamings of their lines and purchased molds from other mfg to try to make a go of it. I would suggest that you search the internet for 'Bucaneer' and 'US Yacht'

I just sunk mine

re bayliner 320, I had one for 5 years...sunk it in a storm 2 weeks ago on Lake Michigan...ugly- hints get a couple of BIG anchors...I had a 40lb Danforth and just bounced into the rocks with it be careful of the fuel tanks...the originals corrode out and the previous owner of my boat put in a horizontal 20 gal tank under the berth in the aft cabin...fatal in the storm I was in...engine gulped air after a good wave bounced the tanks...next the anchor was worthless (see above) end of story, boat totalled on the rocks put in electric fuel pumps ! the manual one on the 36 Volvo is worthless if any air in the lines (see above) get a storm jib! anyway...I would buy another one in a heartbeat if I could find one...scarce and overpriced on the used market these days. the 305 is a better sailer if you don't want the aft cabin...the only difference upgrades in tankage and a few other details. let me know how it goes, if you don't buy it let me know, maybe I will djs

Runaway

Buy a car or a hunter before considering one these, either will float better.

One Down Here Cheap

Maybe even free, not sure I would want it though. It has been sitting for at least 3 years.

Getting rid of a boat is always a happy day. Getting rid of a Bucket is a real party.

grew up on sailing on a 240

i grew up sailing barnegat bay nj on a buccaneer 240, (gold stripe) , as a weekend family boat it was great! lots of room for all 4 of us to move around. as a sailing vessel,,,,,,,well,,,,,,,,she was slow, wouldnt point well, and with the shoal draft and high freeboard, she blew off easily. some people love em, personally, i have fond memories of sailing as a kid, but as an adult who just bought a boat this year for my family, 2 adults, 3 kids, i decided on the catalina 22w/k.even though i could have had a 240 for 1/2 the price. good luck. jeff.

Not confidence inspiring

We've seen them on inland lakes and Lake Michigan and the build quality is not inspiring. Also, the one by us in our harbor loses its mast once a season--usually while on the can! I don't know about the larger ones, but the 24-25 foot ones got their headroom by putting a high molding on what looks like a reasonable hull. Every one I've seen with an inboard was using an outboard! The mast and rigging look light, about the same weight as a MacGregor 26X. I'd have to say a used Catalina or Hunter would be a better buy, and a used San Juan a better racer. On the other hand, there are people who love and swear by every boat line. We adored our 1972 Southcoast 22, for instance.

Don't bother

Buccaneers are the bottom of the barrel in the sailing world. They're poorly built, they sail terribly and are ugly to boot. If you do buy it, be prepared for a load of ridicule like you've never experienced before. That said, I knew a guy who bought one for next to nothing and sailed that sucker every single day. The folks with 'mortgages' on their boats left 'em to rot

Um, For What It Is Worth, I Met A Couple

who spent four months sailing Cuba in one (26) and then another three last time I saw them sailing the California coast. Also had two children and I think a dog. So.... I guess it is a function of priority weighting. Rick D.
