Yea, duh. I guess I was thinking about one of the electronics threads. But seriously, there is a lot people probably want to say about this and there is a place for it. Rather than thinking supression, think channel.

Rick,
Sorry that I sound like an anarchist. Really, I am not.
I have channeled my original thoughts over to the (D'oh!) war room sub-forum and I await my come-uppance.
I have made a fool of myself at least once on this forum by being too judgmental and enjoy keeping my feet on the floor rather then in my mouth.
Thanks for keeping me honest.

For those interested and have time, I posted a blog about our 2004 Cuba trip in the War Room. It's mostly travel stuff and observations of the culture, but it may have some (light) political commentary, so I lobbed it there.

Enjoyed the Article, Chuckbear

Nice to know that some of the other areas were not as crumbling as Santiago de Cuba. There was restoration work in place, but many of those buildings are too far gone. It was refreshing to read from someone who's only frame of reference was not just on a tour bus in Havana.

Thanks Rick, It was the most wonderful place we have yet to cruise in the Caribbean. We figure it is like things must have been 20 years ago. No crowds, plenty of fish and lobster, the friendliest people we have met and crystal clear waters.

Re: I'm (only reading about) Sailing to Cuba baby

And now the 1742 people that click that link will have their computers hacked into in the name of security. Honestly, I was just looking. The HOW fleet alone would overrun Cuba!

Chuckbear,
Wish I could actually read your cruising to Cuba article on line. The resolution is not so great.
Glad you got to go there though.

Hmmm.... The resolution is not perfect since it was posted from a scanned copy, the original was lost but it reads OK for me and the eyes are not so good any more and about a thousand others have read it to date and no one else has mentioned it. You do need to click on each page and it will enlarge it on your screen.

I was able to read it but with some difficulty. It put a cruising bug into me. What an experience! Being new, I still haven't ventured out at night but I hope to someday try a Newport to Bermuda trip. When i retire I'd love to do the ICW down to the Key's and who knows maybe Cuba. i do live in a dream when I read these posts. I found, when you dream long enough and things happen.

Are you guys enlarging the pages? I just checked it again and although it is not perfect, it is not that hard to read and believe me my eyes are tired.

I read it (with old eyes) but the resolution isn't great. It is readable tho IMO.

The USCG patrols the Florida straights with jet aircraft to pinpoint the vesels in transit in proximity to Cuba. Their main task is to watch for Cuban refuges trying to come to the US but they also watch for boats going in the other direction. We have had one of their Falcon jets hit the deck at 100 ft close enough to read our Vessel's name and home port.
