For the past few days my family and I have vacationed at St. Michaels Maryland. I have seen more sail boats, watched the kids at Tred Avon, watched fireworks and ate crab that I'm ready to retire near the water. One boat that I saw was a Falmouth Cutter (spelling) and it was awesome, anyone know anything about this boat? Mac

Take a read of Chapter 6 in "Sailing Small Inspiration and Instruction for the Pocket Cruiser" Edited by Stan Grayson, Devereux Books, Marblehead, MA, 2004. The entire Chapter is about one persons experience with a Falmouth Cutter.

I love Bristol Channel cutters and Falmouth pilot cutters, in part because of the classic look, but more so because they are practical, seaworthy boats. Bear in mind that they were designed as working vessels to be out in all kinds of weather. They were used to meet incoming ships at the outermost buoy and transfer marine pilots aboard for the last leg of the trip into port. Here are a couple of links: http://old.cruisingworld.com/ssbk/bricha28.htm http://www.workingsail.co.uk/Sail.html http://www.selectyachts.co.uk/crabbershome.asp?ArtID=1# They ain't cheap, so I probably need to go get some lottery tickets...
