I'm trying to fit modern inch-and-a-half sanitation hose (trident) over an older bronze seacock -- marked as a nominal inch and a half. The seacock fitting that goes inside the hose is the rough surface of the bronze casting. It is an inch and a half long and ONE AND NINE SIXTEENTHS INCHES in diameter. At the extreme end of this fitting is an enlargement, an inch and five eighths in diameter -- so that you have to push the hose over this bulge to get it on the fitting. I presume the fitting was designed to take rubber hose that would stretch enough. I've tried to heat the new hose with hot water and/or a hair dryer. This allows me to get it just barely over the bulge before the hose cools off and I'm exhausted.I'm inclined to grind off the bulge, and then bevel the end of the fitting -- which will help rather than hinder my efforts to get the hose on and all the way down. It seems to me that once the hose cools down over the oversize, rough-surface bronze fitting, it will be on so tight that I'd have to cut it to get it off -- and that this plus two hose clamps would be secure enough without the bulge. Since the boat will sink if this connection comes off with the seacock open, however, I'd really appreciate an experienced opinion.
