I'm A Believer Now: Wax On Stainless = Effective Rust Stain Barrier

A couple of months ago in this forum I followed a thread about stainless steel becoming rust stained again after polishing. This had been my experience. After polishing my been-on-the-boat since 1980 stanchions and pulpit/stern railings, rust stains would be evident again as soon as even one day of (salt water) sailing.

Forum members recommended applying wax to SS after polishing.

Wax stopping rust? On my old SS fittings? I thought yeah, right. Fat chance.

But hey, worth a try. I already had a bottle of wax. Applying will take only a few minutes extra time after polishing out the existing rust stains. .

I'm a convert. After 1.5 months, no recurrence of rust stains yet. From now on, I'll certainly remember to reapply wax relatively frequently. Much quicker and easier than polishing.

Wax I used was a standard fiberglass polish/wax with PEFT.

Fuel Filter Funnel

Our West Marine Fuel Filter Funnel will not allow diesel fuel to flow past the filter element. The funnel was stored in a plastic bag below next to the through hulls, however, no water was in the bag/funnel. The filter element will not allow fresh fuel, without biocide and injector cleaner, to pass through the funnel. Has anyone experienced a similiar problem with their fuel filter funnel and how did you clean/unclog the filter element?

You are aware, tho, that

wax on stainless will accelerate crevice corrosion by denying oxygen to the surface, whereas the rust stains you remove with polish are only surface rust and more or less harmless.

Nano Polish?

Would the same be true for Nano polish type products? Since the product would get into even smaller areas. Just wondering.
