Illinois Sailing

Hi I am looking for a 1-2 sailing buddies in the Illinois area. I own a 1989 Catalina 30 and am moored at Monroe Harbor in Chicago.I usually am on the lake every weekend for a few hours at least. Wife doesnt always want to go and kids are too young to help, just much easier to go out with some help and Im not really into the retail "sailing club" thing. Theres also misc work on the boat so if you are in the area and interested let me know! Thank you!

P.S: Beginners and Novices are welcome, I have just recently started sailing and got the boat last year so I am always learning as well!

I’m right next door in Burnham Park Harbor. I’m pretty busy with my own boat, but might be available occasionally.
There are three local Facebook groups where you’ll surely find takers. Of course vetting them carefully is important. If you haven’t already, consider joining Chicago Sailors, Chicago Boaters and Port of PHRF.
You also have both Chicago Yacht Club and Columbia Yacht Club right on your harbor. Columbia is the less expensive of the two. Lots of experienced sailors there.

I was hoping to head to the yard on Sunday but the temps are going to plummet! I miss the heated indoor storage hookup I had for $1000 per season!

At least in Upstate NY we've been lulled into a sense of complacency the past few years with very mild winters. This year winter seems to have come back with a vengeance. Another 8-12 inches of snow in Syracuse over the next few days. Glad I'm in Brunswick GA where its in the 70s.

This has been a mild winter overall. We've had a lot of upper 30 days that make boat work possible. It doesn't help that the boat is an hour north and right on the lake. Temps drop rapidly after 2pm

Where was that? Im at around 2k for the season outdoors... ive had indoor quoted to me for 5k!

I had a friend that worked at one of the south side yards. I was quoted around $4000 for indoor heated for a C30. I think Larsen is around $1700 for outdoor. For trailerable boats, I've used a place that's $200 for the whole winter.

I am at canal street and I am paying about 2200 for outside storage (+700 for wrapping which I am commited to doing myself this season using a tarp), 1700 is pretty good I may look into it for next year. Even the slip rates look pretty good there. I have had the boat for a little over a year now so its my second season coming up.
