I have been keeping an eagle eye on hurricane Ike for a few days now. Finally looks like we are out of danger, unless of course it makes a turn to the north. But all the computer models keep shifting it farther and farther south. Maybe this thing will end up in Mexico. A direct hit on Tampico would not hurt my feelings. I hate that nasty, dirty, stinky, unfriendly, corrupt place. And besides that, I can drive from here to the Belize border without consulting a map, but I will get lost in Tampico.

I sure hope it hits as thinly a populated a coast as can be found these days.

Just hoping it misses Corpus Christi

We're watching the forecasts and models almost hourly. My Chris Craft is still on the hard so I'm going up to tie it down this afternoon with mobile home stakes. I wanted it back in the water but the boat yard hit the bow pulpit a week ago so now I don't have a pulpit or even the bollard to which to tie the lines. My pulpit has a bollard and the anchor rollers all welded together as one piece. I plan to install two 7" bow cleats this evening and back them with a treated 2x6 inside the anchor locker.

Wish us luck and say a prayer for all of us down here.

Man, I hate to see anyone get hit, but I have to say I am thankful it's not coming here. All you Texas guys and gals take care and be careful. Looks like somewhere between Houston and Corpus per the latest track. TonyB, your kind of in the bulls eye now. I sure hope you get a miss. You have had your share of hurricane damage. Please be safe.

Not Again

I am glad to hear you are not the target again and again plus sparing florida too.
I feel bad for Texas or any body in the way of Ike.
Sure seems like the weather is been crazy all summer we had and are having a lot of storms even in New England making sailing trips difficult at times.

We are suppost to get hit with some wind and some coastal flooding the next two days. The Marina Bay has already crested. Going down this afternoon to make sure she is tied up good and double check that her sea cocks are closed.

Pros

You guys must be real pros with storm prep by now and we all hope that this is the last one for sure.
I did think back in May a little Hurricane would be good for all the states that
are having bad drought problems but OK enough is enough I think everyone has plenty of water.

It's a big mamma

The center of Ike is at this time 278 miles, just a few degrees east of due south, of New Orleans. We are currently having sustained winds of 25+ knots, with gusts of 40+. Water is up a couple of feet, and supposed to get another 4 to 5 feet of surge. Supposed to get worse tonight, with wind gusts of 50 knots or more. Sure hope everyone stays safe, wherever it ends up going.

Ike Clears Pensacola

Thursday in Pensacola at Big Lagoon, we had about a 5 foot surge and 25 kt winds. Huge waves in the Gulf. Not hardly any rain so far. I pulled my boat out of the water for Hurricane Faye a few weeks ago and haven't put her back since. Good luck for you folks in Texas. BrianW
