Ignition Key On - No Buzzer!

Before I pull the panel in the cockpit for my Universal M-18 I wanted to see if anyone knows the set up with the "buzzer" associated with the ignition switch (key). Is the buzzer a separate component? It did not seem to impair the engine start up.

The buzzer goes on when you turn the key to the on position. It goes off once the engine starts and will come back on when the engine is turned off via the pull handle. It failed to go on in either mode.

Probably a simple fix or replacement, but wanted to know if it served any other purpose aside from letting you know the ignition key was in the "on" position. Do I even need the darn thing?

Thanks

The buzzer tells you that the engine oil pressure is low or that the engine cooling system is over heated. I think it is extremely important. It could be a loose wire or a bad buzzer. The way it works is that the sensors for oil and temperature will switch to ground when there is a problem. That's so the sensors can be all connected together. If any of them sense a problem they ground the buzzer and it sounds off. The buzzer gets power from the ignition switch.

Makes sense. I thought the little orange warning light on the panel would be more of an indicator. Thanks for the information. I will take a look this weekend and correct.
