You use your $4 Wix and I will continue to use my $7 Yanmar. Enough said by me and people that have seen the results of false economies.

NAPA

NAPA also makes a filter that fits the Yanmars. In the automotive field they were rated superior to Fram and others. Steve, how long do you thing these guys would be in the filter business if they made faulty products. We'd all be buying the faulty ones and getting new engines for free if they were that bad. Spoken from years of racing sports cars. S/V Intrepid H34 #113

Yeah, Steve, Wix has been racing their stuff for

many years. They make one of the best filters on the market. You do know that Wix is not a WalMart brand right? Made by Dana.

NAPA filters

The NAPA guy I bought my filters from told me they were made by Purolater. I figured I ran about 25 hours on my Yanmar last year. That is 1/10 of the recommended filter change interval. I figure probably any brand will do a job under those conditions. However the website Steve D refers to is down on Fram so I try and use AC Delco or Wix or Purolator. Yanmar doesnt make their own and I seriously doubt they get a filter custom made to their own specs. If they did it would cost more than the $14 they charge here for a Yanmar filter. I bought the NAPA ones for under $4. Not so much the amount but I object to being ripped off.

Question on those digital gauges...

Those Cruzpro gauges look very interesting. Do I understand correctly that they use the existing Yanmar temp. sending unit? For some reason I thought the Yanmar sender was just an on/off switch but maybe it actually sends the temp and then the idot lights decide when it's too high? Looks like a nice addition, maybe Santa will get me one!

MIles' Question

Miles, you make a good point about the on/off function of the alarm sender. In reply to my question : "Does your device recognize the calibration curve for the standard Yanmar sender?" The Cruz Pro email said: "You may use your existing Yanmar sender (which is actually manufactured by Teleflex and branded for Yanmar)." However, I did not make it really clear that my "standard Yanmar sender" was in fact the one for the alarm. So it may be necessary to get a new sender that sends a full variable set of data. My Yanmar source says that, "the Teleflex senders we use here are P/N 52320-009" SO I think that unless Jerry can enlighten us (he has after all actually installed one!) it looks as though we may need the new sensor.

yanmar 2GM20 water temp gauge installation

yes, I had to add a water temp sender into the blank plug on my Yanmar 2GM20 engine. I tend to remember that it was about $30 for the sender from Yanmar (Torrenson Marine) I installed the Cruz Pro gauge in the electrical distribution panel where all the other gauges on my boat are located. The most difficult part of the installation was getting the plug out and the sender installed and tightened. The engine access on a H-310 leaves a lot to be desired. Took me better part of a day and a few choice words to actually install the sender and tighten it up. Installing and setting up the gauge was much less stressful.

Yanmar Temerature sender

The availability of the digital temperature gauge with an alarm function seems to be a solution to my need for engine temerature information on board. In the Yanmar service manual (for the 3GM30F) the temperature alarm seems to be an on/off switch. Does anyone know the thread size for a replacement sensor or the Teleflex item number for a sensor that will work with the gauge?
