solution. If you have the Google toolbar on your browser, one of the options is a spell checker that will check the spelling of most (they claim) web page forms. I just tried it on a post I made and it highlights the errors and provides alternatives for corrections. Pretty cool.

If you use FireFox...

It has a spell checker built in. Wonderful browser.

Firefox also has a built in...

Popup blocker, and free downloadable cookie and ad blocker. Firefox is also a no-brainer to download, install and use. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ For your mail, you'll also want to replace Outlook with Thunderbird. Also has a built in spell checker and other good stuff. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/ Then go to Google and get their Gmail account for your email and be free of spam without a spam blocker.

Replacement for Outlook?

I've yet to find a replacement for Outlook. Thunderbird may be a replacement for Outlook Express and may replace the email functions in Outlook, but I don't think it has the organizer functionality that's in Outlook. Correct me if I'm wrong. I can download free replacements from OpenOffice.org for most of the Office products, but have never found a replacement for Outlook. Can someone enlighten me? By the way, Internet Explorer also has Popup blocker and cookie and ad blocker, all built-in straight out of the box.

Thunderbird...

Is not as configurable as Outlook or even Outlook Express. I have tried Thunderbird numerous occasions and have always reverted back to Outlook/OE. I found FireFox superior to IE, but found Thunderbird lacking in so many ways. And FireFox has a host of plugin/add-ons that make life much more easier. I use the IE tab in FireFox to get to site best opened by IE. Instead of using two browers, I just use FF with IE tab.

We Can't Spell - Who Cares?

Rich, The spelling is crap on most websites. Who cares? It is the thought behind the response that matters to me. Fellow sailors caring about each other and being helpful to people who share their views on the ocean. Keep it up guys and gals, your collective knowledge is worth millions. I have learnt a lifetime of useful sh#t on this website. Do not stop. Pete

Rich, sumtimes the spilling is vary importent

If they don't come pretty close you just kant no what they are reelly trying two say. There is for example a big difference between an anchor rode and an anchor road. And not to be dismissed lightly is not and knot.

OK, I surrender

I thought that there might be a few other posters that hate to misspell. Although I've had the Google toolbar on my Firefox browser, I never used the spell-check feature until today. I discovered it would fill a need I had and perhaps help others who might care about spelling. Or maybe not. Oh, well.

Sounds good to me,

There are some of us that do not have the bennefit of "English" as a first or even second language. Speaking from experience, I can say, that at times, erratic spelling on some posts has prevented me from fully understanding the intent of the writer. Spell-check is a god-send, now if only it could correct grammer as well...... EG
