Hi. I'm new to the forum, and I'm not a sailing enthusiast. I'm posting for my friend.
My friend has been sailing ever since his early adulthood in his native Germany. He lives in the U.S. now and is an avid sailor. He even built his own boat once. He doesn't have a computer, so I offered to ask some questions for him.
He's currently looking at an Idylle 11.5 - 1985. He said that he was unsure as to whether to buy it or not, because he thought it had a shallow draft (~4-1/2 feet). He wondered if the boat was going to be stable enough laterally.
He intends to sail any boat he gets off the Pacific Coast. He feels that a 4-1/2 ft. draft would be fine as a coastal cruiser [I think that's what he said], but was unsure if it was deep enough for sailing in the rough Pacific, say from San Francisco Bay to Mexico.
I'm sorry that I don't have any more information than that. Any and all advice on an Idylle 11.5 - 1985 would be welcome. I intend to print out this thread and give it to him when some folks chime in.
