From the Buffalo Maritime Museum. I knew what the boat was when I saw it. Only read a few articles and saw photos of them over the years, never actually saw one in person before.

Looks like a wooden boat that is getting fully rebuilt and has caulked seams that will leak the moment it is placed in the water. It has a really pretty piece of white oak being used on the keel.
No idea what it was or will be again.

Tricky of @higgs to give us a stern on view with no rudder evidence.
A pretty looking sail boat @jon hansen . What did you notice of her sailing characteristics?

i did not sail on her. i did grow up sailing a john alden US one design. 38' loa 7' beam. so what is that kind of boat good at? going to weather! cutting through the chop. out pointing every one.

That's only assuming you adopt the @Kermit upwind strategy, wherein the crew outside the cockpit get tossed overboard at the windward mark. (I was never clear on what you do at the leeward mark though...)

Ballast is ballast. I was reading an article about Captain John Paul Jones this morning. I see where in his youth he would sail from Barbados to the Carolina's and exchange ballast before heading back to England.

Maybe that is what is on the mind of the Frog when racing to and from the windward mark. But who can really know what is on a frogs mind.

But ballast can be worth looking at. Certainly something to be taking into consideration prior to arbitrary tossage.

Yes. Especially such fine ballast as you.

Nah, I was thinking more along the lines of the examples in the back of the pickemup as demonstrated in a previous thread.

He would toss such fine looking ballast? or would toss you to pick up two for ballast?
