I have the stock panel (I assume, at any rate) in the teak veneered box screwed to the glass area beneath the companionway entrance. It has longish toggle switches, rather exposed to damage from kicking and prone to get poked to be "on" by people exiting. One time, the anchor masthead lamp was accidentally kicked on, I didn't see it as it was daylight, and of course next week - no battery charge. Not irrecoverable, as I don't have an electric start outboard, but a pain as I had to remove it to recharge at home.

I don't want the expense of an altogether new panel.

Has anyone crafted a cover for this? I'm thinking along the lines of some clear plastic sheet, like acrylic, possibly one end bent 90 degrees (with heat applied somehow to the bend - maybe using metal rod heated with torch), and hinged at the top. Or else I could just screw on a wood strip to act as a stand-off at the bottom, and figure out how to hinge to the top.

Any good designs, ideally with photos?

Thanks, Peter

Peter, I thought of cutting my 12volt switch handles shorter by 1/2. I also thought of a cover for mine when I added my shore power, just for looks.
I didn't do either but I was going to melt my switch handles off with a soldering iron and sand smooth with my Dremel tool
I thought of a thin flat wood panel with a piano hinge at the top hanging down to cover it
Just loosen a few traveler bolts to fasten the hinge to, slip the hinge under, re-tighten
Pics of my 12volt panel and shore power in my profile.
I just got used to it and didn't do anything
Good luck with yours,
Charles
