Hi all, I'm looking for any ideas -- implemented or not -- on where to put a small TV/VCR combo and video game set. It can make all the difference in the world if the kids have the chance to get a little TV time in during a cruise (I've been told). My thoughts so far are: 1. Build a shelf in the aft bunk, against the aft head wall and secure it there. 2. Build a shelf to hang on the compression post over the dining table. It could be made to swivel to face either fore or aft. All feedback welcome... Thanks, Tom

What I Did

I struggled with the same issue and ended up locating mine on top of the "cooler" storage locker using appliance hold-down gizmos from West Marine. We hardly ever use the big cooler that came with the boat so this works fine. I installed an addtional 120v outlet inside the storage area and bought one of those portable 12v power supply/battery chargers/air compressors ($59 on sale). TV cords run through a hole drilled in the liftable top. When in the marina, we use the 120v while the 12v charges; when sailing, the portable 12v power supply gives us about 3-4 hours. This location provides good viewing for persons in the v-berth and on the settees (important since I have 4 kids). Also, with the appliance hold-down things, the TV/DVD can be stowed away when counter space is needed. DVD's, games and controllers are stored in the cooler space; everything is easily removed in the off-season for use elsewhere Not the most elegant solution, but it works well for us and didn't take a ton of work. Other ideas I considered either didn't provide enough viewability, took up too much headroom, or where too complicated to provide power for, etc. One more thought: I opted for a 9" TV/DVD player. They're more expensive than TV/VCR's but are smaller and the DVDs take up less room. Good luck and let us know what you come up with. I can change my configuration if I hear a better one.
