The I measurement is 42'. That is the height of just the mast. 47' 4" is the height from the water line.Go to the boat info page to fine specs on your boat. max s

A symmetrical chute could use the "I" dimension for its luff. An Akite will need a slightly longer luff. You will also need a pole, foreguy and downhaul.

Your sailmaker is the one with the answer. all the sym's I have ever seen set on a pole 4 to 8 feet up the mast. I is definitely not the answer.

I have used a 40 foot luff 1.5 oz chute quite successfully, the problem is seeing where you are going. The chute, with the pole set 4 feet or so up the mast is on the pulpit in light air. I was looking for a light air 0.5 or 0.75 oz and will likley stay with the 38 to 40 foot luff
