When my crew gets comfortable I set sail and course to keep her comfortable. Boat performance is secondary.

Back in my Laser sailing days I did sit to the leeward to reduce wetted surface area. A board boat responds a lot to where the crew sits. But my Pearson 323 doesn't seem to notice my position. I had assumed we were talking about cruising sailboats with only 2-3 crew members.

The bigger the boat, the more "rail meat" needed to affect trim.
