I only could find a couple of posts about the Ida rudder replaceing the Hunter rudder. I am seriously considering it unless I hear something bad about it. I have a couple of buddies with Catilana 25's and they love it. Anybody out there done this?

I bought one from Idasailor and replaced the old rudder blade one on my Mac 22 a few years ago. Fit great and looked amazing.

We replaced the stock rudder on our old '98 H26 with the IDA Sailor one, it was like night and day, easy up, easy down and anywhere in between, no more rudder creep during a sail, and as a rudder, superior.

You won't regret doing it, I recommend it to everybody with a H23.5, H240, h26 or H260.

Thanks, I have a friend with a Catilina 250 and he loves it. I don't understand then why more Hunterowners don't go to the IDA.
FYI----My rudder had a cleat for the rudder down haul to tie off to. Last year because of unexpected shallow H20 the rudder bracket weld cracked and rudder cracked because I couldn't release the line quick enough. Now have a jam cleat so I can quick release

If it works as good on your h240 as mine does on my h23 your going to love it. My original h23 rudder delaminated on our 3rd sail. I couldnt find a replacement so I purchased the IdaSailer rudder/tiller. It was like going from a log truck to Mustang GT. I have a few pictures of mine in my profile. Fairwinds, Charles,

i replased the rudder on my Hunter 260 with an Ida rudder and have no problem with it the last 4 years. The install was not hard at all.

Today I noticed my rudder assembly had some play in it so I have been thinking about my rudder all day and this post got me wondering. What is better about the IDA rudders? Is sailing performance enhanced?

Yes, helm balance is improved=less drag=more speed. Was a big improvement on my O'Day 22.

Our 1998 H260 hunter rudder delaminated in 2004 and we replaced it with an IDA. The solid rudder is sturdier and seems to cut a better line in the water with less drag. We love it.

I just found the dreaded fracture at the head in our '04 260 rudder so I'm about to make the leap too. My question is if anyone has chosen Ida Rudders shorter 260/26 version and with what success or regret (aside from the $270 difference).

I have a hard time believing that 48"-vs-56" will really be that big of a deal on a 260. Our stock slug of a rudder is 56"+/- but it seems under engineered(read: plank) and a bit too long. A shorter version with a nice profile would be an enormous improvement I'm sure.

The SS rudder head housing on our boat has also bent/flared outward on both starboard and port sides over time and needed to be welded where it had begun to fracture too. We use the boat pretty hard at times and sail it right to it's limits on longer runs occasionally so the lightweight head and longer rudder design need regular inspection along with a new rudder now and then.

I would suggest that if you need a rudder and want an Ida, that you call the staff at SBO.com and talk to them about which one you may need/want. They have someone that can answer your question and/or find the answer. You may save some money too!

The only down side I can think of for a shorter rudder is when a gust overpowers you, your rudder will come out of the water sooner. Under those sever conditions, the extra 8" may not matter.

Well I did it and ----WOW. It is like installling power steering, and much more responsive, easy to put rudder down and not that much harder to bring up. It is 7" shorter and was concerned about rounding up sooner, I sent an email to the company late Friday and they called me back Sat, am and told me it shouldn't matter. It seems to work great up wind but it some big gusts on a broad reach seemed to round up a littler earlier thatn before, but was hard to tell cause I was way overpowered with wind I was getting. I love it well worth the $500 and has a life time warranty. Should have done it years ago.
