The unused sailboats that reside on this lake amaze me.... any ideas? 30ft 1976 Peterson according to the listing, but the internet shows nothing similar. Hasn't moved in over a decade. Comes complete, sails in garage.
Don't tell me how expensive free boats are.... I have redone several.
I'm going to look at it and visit with owners widow today.

Voting with Claude, except that I would date the design from the mid-70's. Can you get close enough to read the HIN on the transom?
FWIW, the quarter ton class boats were generally 22 to 25 long. Since it was a Measurement Derived rating, the length would vary. If longer, it might have been a "half ton" rated boat.

We did it! We stumped Sailboatdata.com. They do not list a Peterson 29 half-ton! :kick:
She was cool in her day. Rod rigging, hydraulic backstay, looks fast just sitting there. Decks are solid glass. Bulkheads are incredibly rotten. Atomic 4 is crusty and missing parts. She has 8 sails for it in the basement .
Big project... I will have to think on this one. I don't have enough truck/trailer to haul it out.

Damned good pedigree, tho!

My previous boat, Hinterhoeler design, used a "Peterson keel" profile, and was very fast on all points of sail.

Yikes, my kind of boat. Glad it's not in my neck of the woods or I'd be looking for crew and a trailer (a campaign chest, too.)
Nonetheless, I'm not sure where the Peterson 29 reference came from but the author did say Chaser 29... and here it is:

There she is, page 3 of the Sailboat Data listing. 90 sail boats in the “Half-Ton” class of ocean racers.

Chaser 29 history has a wiki page with a short write-up. A Canadian built boat out of Erin, Ontario, Canada

Looks like it would be a fun boat to sail. A little beamy in the hips…

We had the 3/4 Ton IOR big brother, a Chaser 33, for a number of years... loved that boat. It worked you hard, but rewarded. To windward it would point like no other... and square the pole, run deep and hold-on! Had an amazing feature to automatically clean the end of the boom and the spin pole in an alternating pattern... :) Wasn't a boat for a weak helms-person!

Have a ton of respect for Doug Peterson and what he did to IOR in the 70's/80's... I hated to part with our Chaser, but it wasn't he boat for a family with 4 small kids, but someday maybe...
