I'm thinking of adding a simple outhaul to my boom. My thought was to attatch a small block through the clew of my main and one to the end of my boom and add a cleat to the end of the boom. I'd tie a bowline into the clew and pass the line through the block at the end of the boom then back through the block at the end of the clew so I could pull the line aft and cleat it off. Does this sound correct? Any tips on mounting the cleat to the boom. Can I just use self tapping sheet metal screws?

Are you saying that you have no outhaul adjustment now? How do you control draft depth on the sail now?

None whatsoever lol. I don't and that's the problem. The clew is basically tied to the end of the boom.

Outhaul

Sounds reasonable, Capn' Kev.. Ya might want to consider moving the cleat forward some, to a place you can reach when the boom is swung out a bit.. It is easy to lead through the boom to a forward sheave so it exits at the gooseneck and you can adjust while sailing any point.. The small line coming out the bottom and going aft to a cleat.. That bundle of line in the bail is the outhaul.

Are you talking about using 2 blocks to get a 3:1 purchase? How much room do you have between your clew and the end of your boom? I mounted a cheek block near the end of my boom, then a cleat about 1/3 of the way back from the gooseneck, so I could still reach it to adjust it downwind, with the sail out. I drilled & tapped holes, but the self-tapping might be OK.

As Kevin3447 said you will want a couple blocks for more purchase. Even my H22 has blocks (inside the boom) for more power. This is how my H22 is set up.
