The connector on my command mic has broken. Icom will not just sell the connector but will be glad to sell me a brad new command mic (capitalism at work):snooty:

Anyway, has anyone ever replaced the connector on their command mic, and if so where did you find the replacement connector.

Otherwise any ideas of a replacement connector from another mfr?

Thanks in advance.

plugs

I'd be surprised if the connector wasn't an off the shelf part and not something special cooked up by Icom. It should be available from either a wholesale electronics supplier or possibly the original manufacturer (probably have to buy a quantity though)
Rather than talk to Icom parts/customer service, try and get someone on the phone in the repair department. They may be able to tell you who supplies them with the plug.
Failing that, you can count the number of wires (including any shielding) involved and find a male and female waterproof plug with the same amount of pins. One of the plugs (boat side) will need to be a surface mount. This will require changing both the plug on the mic and the one on the boat but from a $$ standpoint, sure beats a whole new mic.

Try DigiKey.com

They have almost every kind of connector avalable. They also have the picture with measurments so you can determine what the connector is actually called by the manufacturers.
You can get all the info online but I find it easier to request a catalog then thumb through it. They'll send you one for free. Great referance for projects later also.

or any Ham Radio Outlet store or Amateur Electronics Supply store, both are national chains and will have the Icom mic connector.

Surprised. I bought a new cord which had the connector couple years back through Icom parts. Was much cheaper than the whole Mic.

I need both ends

Icom said that the connector comes from italy. (actually mfd in Japan) It is a molded on connector. The problem is that I do need both ends. During some rough weather I broke the shell of the mic connector and the shell of the female connector that it plugs into.

I figured that I would just have to buy a new set of connectors and solder them on, but I assume I am not the first or last guy that this will happen to so maybe someone has already found a exact replacement.

I guess I will just buy a male and female connector and heat up the soldering iron.

Ah, I see... The cord came with the male connector and the plug inside the mic assembled, but not the female connector.

This is a very common fix as most of us ham radio operators have at least one Icom radio and like to experiment with various microphones, most of which come with no connector. You should have no problem finding the parts locally or from any of the various sources we enumerated above
