Tested using just a screwdriver to take apart the interior and succeeded in taking out the counter, icebox, sink of the galley. Wondering what people have done with their icebox/fridge situation? Drop in an Engel or other Drop-In? Add a conversion unit? Cold Plate style? Other styles? Interested in hearing any and all experiences.It's Spring!Scott, Fiddler #1858, CT

I took my icebox out when I remade my counter top. I had considered putting something else it its place but decided that area would be better served without the clutter and constant wet that the icebox developed. New to the group, recently purchased a 1976 Vega. It did not come with the original table or legs. I am wondering if anyone knows where to get a pair of curved replacement legs if I wanted to remake the table myself? I also considered ordering the small octagon table from VAGB, but obviously I don’t have one of my original table legs to use with it.

The table legs have a "dogleg" curve to  them so the table can adjust in or out. The are made from stainless tubing. Nothing fancy. Yeah, I figured finding some straight stainless tubing would be easy, but was hoping to get the “dogleg” curve, as I think its better for moving your legs around underneath or moving around the table.  Even if I can’t find the actual legs, just the dimensions of the original leg would be good so I could make a new set.

Dont worry about the original specs, just dogleg (joggle) them to the desired amount of adjustment that you like. If memory serves me correctly I think there is about a 5 inch joggle to the legs. you are correct. THe dogleg allows you to conveniently pivot the table in several positions.
Get the dimensions correct. Also the location of the sockets under the table I imagine would
be important.

Hi Tim, Considering where you are at you probably don't have much need for refrigeration. Knowing that we were heading for warmer climates caused us to consider putting in something more efficient than the icebox that came with Lyric. Actually most anything
would have been better. As I recall that box was a maybe 14 or 15 inch cube with about 1 inch of foam surrounding it. We felt we needed a better box and getting one into the space available was a challenge. So we made our own. We wanted more insulation and

cold plate conversion unit ( I can't remember of off the top of my head). The top of the box has a weighted lid to fit tightly and is probably 2 inches thick and also foam filled. To look at it you would guess that it was a standard Vega icebox form the outside.
Front of the box is another 4 inches or so of foam and the sides of the box have foam between the hull and the box. The compressor and motor sit on a shelf in the cockpit locker. There is a small drainage hose that leads to the bilge and has a turncock to
keep it from draining until desired. It was a fairly costly endeavor but being able to keep 9 liters of cold mix for the cocktails made us a very popular boat in many of the anchorages we visited. Unfortunately we couldn't make ice with it. I figure somebody

I took my icebox out when I remade my counter top. I had considered putting something else it its place but decided that area would be better served without the clutter and constant wet that the icebox developed. I will get a portable ice chest in its place.

Draining food and nutrient rich water into the bilge sounds like a grow way to grow a fantastic bacteria and fungus colony down there in the unreachable dark recesses of the bilge.If you are lucky, you might even get a colony that smells like potpourri or a wildflower meadow;)Tim

mine does drain to the bilge. I have asked that question while ago on FB group and Steve Birch indicated that its the original setup, which drains the ice chest to the bilge. If anyone came up a clever idea which works, i would gladly follow the foot steps.

The table legs are 1" diameter. The table dimensions are 40"x 20-1/4". The table legs are attached to the table by hubs. Those hubs are not centered on the table but instead are 7-1/2" from the edge. Walt, what an amazing upgrade for a freezer. I wish I had the energy to do something like that. Keeping things cold in Alaska is an easy job. I figure I would just keep stuff in the bilge that needed to stay cool. The old bilge fuel tank has been retrofitted so now its used as a cool storage. Those portable electric coolers seem like they would work well. Just have to find a place to put it. When I made a new counter top I removed the entire freezer but kept the cutout for the freezer lid so as to be able to access the space deep inside the cabinet. That is where I now store cookware. Hi Tim, Considering where you are at you probably don't have much need for refrigeration. Knowing that we were heading for warmer climates caused us to consider putting in something more efficient than the icebox that came with Lyric. Actually most anything
