icebox conversion insulation

I just bought the Cold Machine for my boat and must add insulation to my icebox. I don't have access to the outside of the box. There is about 3" of old style styrofoam insulation existing. I was thinking of adding 2 layers of closed cell insulation from Home Depot to the inside and sealing it with formica and 3m 4100 on the corners. Will this be sufficient or do I have to spend a fortune on some space age panel system that I have to put together with an iron and a straw to evacuate any air. (A little cumbersome). I just want a cold box without a huge project. Any suggestions?

Adding insulation

The proper type of insulation to add is polyurethane. When doing a project like this you must be sure to seal the joints so NO moisture can get into the foam! Once moisture is in the foam it loses its effectiveness. The best way of insulating the box is to take out the old box and start from scratch. This is a time consuming job but once completed it will give you a refrigerator/freezer with no problems.

give it a "shot"

Has anyone suggested using a can of polyurethane. The same stuff you can use to insulate your home. It can be purcahsed at Home Depot in a 16 oz (?) can. You could drill a hole in several location around the compatment and inject the stuff.

Careful with foam

Expanding canned insulation can be quite an interesting beast! Be aware that it can exert a fair ammount of pressure as it expands
