Anybody know who sales a very small 12v volt ice maker that doesn't cost $1000?

Cheap ice maker

Franklin, you could try one these with an inverter. It's about as inexpensive you can get and I have no idea how well they work. Maybe someone else on this forum knows. Conn's might still sell them under a different brand name. Other than that they get pricey.

Ice sells for about a buck and ahalf

for an eight pound bag. How long will it take you to use 660 bags of ice? For 1000 dollars you can buy a commercial ice maker and set it up at home and supply yourself and sell the surplus to your marina mates.

Thanks..I saw that one two. It's a little bigger then what I'm looking for. I would like one that doesn't have a tank but an input line and that I could put on the galley counter top. Also, if it's using an inverter, it's wasting energy. Thanks though. Any others?

Power consumption is insane

on that Edge Star unit: Energy requirements: 115 Volts / 60 Hertz, 400 Watts, 3.48 Amps That's over 35 amps from the 12v supply...to make ICE? I don't know of any other unit unless there are some old ammonia based, heat driven systems still around: think "Mosquito Coast"!

I was just reading the power needs for

ice making. It come to about 120 watts per pound of ice, or about 10 Ampere hours per pound. I make my ice at home and carry it to the boat.

Yeah, I got one. A 6ph that weights 57 lbs. I tested it a few weeks ago around the marina but I still haven't gotten my dinghy registered yet so I haven't taken it out of the marina yet. I still need to finish breaking her in before I could consider anything like a race although I'm sure your 9.9 hp engine would blow me away. I think it's really stupid that one has to register a dinghy.

Register a dink? only if you turn it into

a motor boat. Oars and a removable sail no need to register.
