Even though my boat is shrink wraped and I took the time to clean out any remaining water in the bilge the the pump couldn't get, I have a couple of inches of ice over the keel boats. Is this a common problem for New England boaters and should I be concerned about potential ice damage?

I quit worrying about it years ago. With a keel-stepped mast there is always water in the bilge. I used to do as Steve suggests but it was constant at $4.00 a gallon. Everytime I cleaned it out I had to add more. Now I just make sure that the fuse is pulled so the bilge pump doesn't try to run. Once every four to six weeks I check and clean it out. It's easier, just pick up the ice and put in sink. I haven't been to check for about six weeks and with the mast down this winter hope to find it dry.
