You have been given much advise here and you are

wise to consider it carefully. If you choose well you can find a small boat that will have all of the elements of building that will be found in a large boat. Remember that a 20 foot boat is not twice as big as a 10 foot boat It is closer to eight times as big because it is twice as long , wide and deep. The lumber dimensions will be larger. The fasteners will be larger. I chose to rebuild a fiberglass hull because I could find the shape I wanted without the need to build a mould.

Boatbuilding Ring

Google this The Boatbuilding Ring. This one has dozens of sights and people building boats out of strip plank, carvel, plywood, you name it. I stayed on it for hours and only got from P-S. Amazing amount of info. I stayed up till 4 am as I dragged out ALL my Wooden Boats, all my designs, and started going through them. I started getting into it again. Thanks.

miniflowers send me an email thru my profile

I listed a email forwarding website a couple of times but the forum sysop deleted it. You can send me an email thru my profile on this website. I just updated it to include my email address. *** Interesting - I sent myself an email 15 minutes ago and I haven't received it yet.

Flying Scot and self built wooden dingy 19 foot and V12 WV and MD
Start small

I've built 2 kayaks (15 and 17 feet) and a 12 foot sailing dingy from wood and fiberglass. To do them service and make a nice job takes months of work. You can't rush the process and don't really want to. Final finishing is the process that takes the most time. Sure any monkey can pound a few boards togher and get somthing to float but a good job gets lots of oo's and ah's at the launch site. After you have spent $600 - $1000 for quality materials and the job turns out nicely - comes the addiction. You want to build another (bigger, better performance, different style ot usage). Below are several sites for small craft plans or kits. www.bateau2.com www.clcboats.com

I'll second the Stevenson plans. I have both the Vacationer and Weekender plans. Never got around to building either one. Decided to buy an Oday 222 and get it back on the water. Maybe some time in the future I'll be able to go ahead and use the plans.

and after a few hours you will find several sailboat hulls that have either been built from scratch or reworked. They have been all but abandoned and are for sale CHEAP for the cost of storage. Good luck in your search.
