All you Hunter gurus out there - we have a '95 Hunter 336 that has one heavy duty cleat in the anchor locker on the starboard side. I'd like to add another on the port side of the locker. I've heard others say that the early model 336's actually had two cleats in the locker, but no bow cleats (ours has the bow cleats). Does anyone know if there is a backing plate glassed into the locker on the port side that I can drill and tap? Or should I plan on using a backing plate on the inside of the boat to reinforce the cleat? We basically want to be able to rig two anchors and not have to tie them both off to the same cleat.

I doubt that there is a backing plate unless there is smooth gel coat in that area. If you can check the other cleat you can determine by seeing if the cleat is thru bolted with nuts.

The inside of the anchor locker is finished with gelcoat. The anchor locker on these boats is pretty shallow, 8 or 10 inches maybe , and it's really just a depression in the deck that has a hinged cover over it. It's finished the same way as the deck.

Backing Plate

I think you should plan on adding backing plate,I did not see any extra backing plates when under mine anchor locker from the vee berth.
