Bang for the buck
Our 1988 33.5 needed some serious work and we had the cash to re-fit it the way we wanted (albeit we could have sailed her almost as she was). We paid 33,900 for her (less than others of the same year model at the time). She has two separate staterooms with doors and standing room for dressing and both have hanging lockers and some drawers, bookshelves etc. Separate vanity and head/shower areas. Decent sized galley with good storage and sit down nav station along with a dining table bench set up that can sit 4-6 pretty comfy (settee is on port, dinette on starboard). We go out for 2-3 day trips with 2 couples and a two year old. Never get in each other way too much. Cockpit is roomy and well laid out, huge and deep lazarette and 6.4 headroom down below. Downside, I wish it had the 3gm yanmar instead of 2gm. With a campbel sailor 3 blade prop at 2,600 rpms we go about 6.5 knots (this is s.o.g using our dgps unit, not just impeller knot log by the way). If you want a boat that is comfy and can move with the right sails, I highly recommend it. The problem...they are not easy to find for sale. This should tell you something. I could look at probalby 20 catalina 30's without leaving a 30 mile radius. I think there is one or two 33.5's in the whole puget sound.good luck.Doug
