I'd agree......I must tell you I am tempted to sell you mine. However you'd need another 10k......i have over 24000 in the vessel. Its ALL new......that $# is just parts..... labor done by yours truly. Torn down to the hull, liner, deck everything replaced that is maintenance or wear item...you'd love it......but 30k won't get me what I want.....lol. It has every bell and whistle!

I believe that is what the Classified section is for.

Rich,

No need to leave, the forums have excellent value. For example there is TONS of stuff about what to look for when buying, what boats off what. You can always ask questions like "Interested n an O'day 30 and Catalina 30 what should I look for as pros cones of each?"

You just can't post "I have a C-30 for sale." in the main discussion forums.

The owner of the site just spent a LOT of money on the software for the "classified" section and likes to keep the forums free and clear of stuff for sale.

I just didn't know about it being called by a different name. I saw no thread called for sale. I was mostly bothered by being told that I'm going to take a big fail. I'm not stupid, and think I have enough knowledge to be able to get a survey and can spot trouble fairly well on my own. I'm not stupid.

Rich,

Welcome!

Please excuse some responses you'll get here! There are a few who don't always come across as friendly, they may be trying to be helpful. Maybe it was just the lack of punctuation and spelling but I'm sure mortyd meant well.

One thing I never do is strain my budget when it comes to a sailboat! I'll never spend more than I can afford to lose on a luxury item. Sure unexpected things happen but I just refuse to stretch my budget far enough to make it not fun. Our old O'day 26' was a filthy neglected pathetic boat when we found her and having owned 6-7 previous boats we could see potential and also areas of concern.

That being said, I'm not wealthy, even by our current Presidents description.

I agree that an older 30' boat is much more than most people ought to tackle as a first sailboat, good point.

Sorry we did not catch that post sooner. It clearly violated the forum rules and has been deleted. We simply can't read every post here but we certainly try.

If someone is rude, inconsiderate or making direct personal attacks simply click this button
in the box with the offending post and an email will go out to all the mods and admins...

Guys when attempting to make what may be a useful point PLEASE refrain from insults, personal jabs or being rude. Argue/discuss the POINT not the POSTER.... Please re-read your posts before hitting send.... IT IS NOT WHAT YOU SAY, IT IS HOW YOU SAY IT....... Be nice!

The iPhone app doesn't have any links to the Classified section. It took me quite a bit of tweaking just to figure out how to make the War Room a favorite forum, and then can quickly navigate to it. The app is not as obvious as the full web page.

I'm surpriesed that both Maine Sail and myself not only both posted in this thread but missed the rude remarks.

The offending posts were deleted. Hopefully you'll stick around, there's lots to learn and lots of good people on this forum.

Rich, I've used online advertising to sell boats and it becomes difficult preventing scammers from flooding it. I believe that's why sites like this like to keep advertising in a tightly controlled compartment.
The only reason I still visit this forum (or any forum) is a learned ability to ignore annoying posters, it's the secret to longevity, they usually go away soon anyway. Actually, works good in the virtual world too.;)

Rich,
I don't know what the deleted post said, but my advice would be not to take it too seriously. This forum is MUCH tamer than some others I read.

Being new isn't being stupid. But if you're new to sailing I would recommend making any offer contingent upon the boat passing a survey. I'm one of those guys that can fix anything but I wouldn't buy a boat or a house without a second set of eyes. Sometimes they just see something you missed. Sometimes you don't know what you don't know.

I'd encourage you to keep posting questions as you search for a boat. There are some VERY knowledgeable people on this forum.

Best of luck in your search,
Jim

I'm Totally Lost Here .............................

Sorry guys. I'll delete this app, and never post again. We all have to start somewhere. Goodbye.
...................... which is nothing new or out of the ordinary.

On 10-12-2012, you posted asking for information on buying an older Catalina. In a period of three days you received two pages of replies with enough information to rival Practical Sailor's 5th edition of Practical Boat Buying Volumes One and Two.

http://forums.sbo.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?t=146515

In those replies was a pretty roughly worded one from an individual who was a little unhappy from a previous restoration experience or was overly happy and not too sure about what he was saying to whom or how.

You then posted on 10-16-2012 asking about a For Sale area on this site:

http://forums.sbo.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?p=968818&highlight=boats for sale

Nothing wrong with that and I think I can boast to asking far worse. Your question was answered in a perfectly friendly and respectful manner.

In your final post of the above thread, you stated:

Rich, if you're still listening (or reading), I just can't see how you can take offense to this site for the thoughtless remark of one person when placed along side the mountain of valuable information you received from all the others. Or am I missing something here ?

Perhaps it's time for you to take a step back to see this in a better perspective. To re-quote a previous comment, "Hopefully you'll stick around, there's lots to learn and lots of good people on this forum".
